ABOUT BRADKEN

Sustainability

For Bradken, sustainability is about building the foundations for our future.

It’s important to our employees, stakeholders and customers that we care for our people and our planet.

We will continually look for ways to reduce any adverse impacts of our operations and products on the environment and the communities we work in. This includes being more efficient with the use of natural resources and raw materials and reducing our energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Our goal is for Bradken to be carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.

We‘re also looking to improve the social and economic equity of the communities we are part of by focusing on the health and wellbeing of our people and supporting gender equality and education.

Our environmental and sustainability responsibilities are integral to how we do business at Bradken, including complying with the relevant legal and other requirements applicable to our operations.

Bradken and the Sustainable Development Goals

Our sustainability framework is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.

quote

One of Bradken’s core strategies is to act responsibly and ethically; it’s central to the way we work. We demonstrate that commitment to our people and our planet by aligning our sustainability activity to the SDGs

- Fiona Hoban, EGM Safety, Sustainability & Quality

Bradken has reviewed the United Nations SDGs and identified 7 goals which align with our core business objectives. We see these goals as being the ones we can have the biggest impact on.

Environmental Management

At Bradken, we are committed to the prevention of pollution and reducing the impacts of our operations and products on the environment and communities in which we operate.
We have identified three key areas as part of our environmental management: Energy and Emissions, Water Conservation, and Waste Generation.
Energy efficiency is a high priority for Bradken. We consume energy in the form of electricity, natural gas, diesel, liquified petroleum gas and petrol. Reducing our energy consumption will reduce our generation of greenhouse gas emissions. We have a long-term environmental target of being carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030.
Water consumption is a necessary part of our production and manufacturing processes. Through understanding the processes that consume high volumes of water, we will identify and implement water conservation initiatives across our sites that reduce the consumption of this precious resource.
Bradken seeks to not only minimise the waste that it disposes to landfill, but minimise the total amount of waste it generates as a result of its activities. Opportunities to avoid waste generation in the first instance are targeted.
A number of our sites hold external certification to ISO14001:2015, the globally recognised international standard for Environmental Management Systems.
Sites currently holding this certification include Bassendean, Ipswich, Wodonga and Wundowie (Australia), Coimbatore (India) and Xuzhou (China).
We currently have two sites; Coimbatore (India) and Xuzhou (China) also holding external certification to ISO50001:2018 Energy Management Systems.
Bradken is currently working on the development of an Integrated Management System (IMS) that will enable the certification of all other Bradken operational sites to not only ISO14001:2015, but the other ISO standards relating to safety management (ISO45001), and energy management (ISO50001:2018).
